Announcement of Kraft leaving Cheltenham is bad news for the local rental market

The announcement yesterday that Kraft will be leaving Cheltenham by the end of 2011 is bad news for the rental market here in Cheltenham. I doubt very much that there is a firm of letting agents in Cheltenham who don’t have Kraft employees either as Landlords or Tenants on their books. Here at rent:cheltenham, we certainly have both, and we will be very sad to see Kraft leave Cheltenham. With around 500 employees, the firm has been very good for our business.

Kraft who have had their European headquarters in Cheltenham for more than 30 years have announced plans to leave the town

Although it doesn’t seem to have been confirmed by the American food giant, it appears that 450 jobs could also be at risk. Moving the firms European headquarters from Bayshill Road in Cheltenham to the Cadbury’s HQ in Bournville will supposedly streamline the business. Job cuts sound inevitable, but let’s hope that these are kept to an absolute minimum. Our best wishes go to everyone working for Kraft in Cheltenham.
